The Charleston Stage Company & Festiv-All Charleston announce the 2008
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
NEW PLAY CONTEST

The Elvis Play
The Charleston Stage Company, in conjunction with
Festiv-ALL Charleston and the WV Commission on the Arts has developed the new
Location! Location! Location! Play Project.
The purpose of the project is to explore the dramatic possibilities of some of Charleston’s unusual spaces and to get theatre off the stage and into the public places.
This year the play will take place at O’KAYS (formerly Blues, Barbeque) at Leon Sullivan and Lee Street across from the Clay Center on Saturday June 28th at 11:00, 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00.
The basic guidelines are as follows:
Plays must have at least one ELVIS of any variety: Young Elvis, Fat Elvis, Dead Elvis, that’s up to you. Likewise, the premise: It can be historical (Elvis visited Charleston in 1976) or it can be based on a recent sighting. A maximum of four other characters must be selected from the following list:
· a nun,
· a doctor,
· a policeman,
· a French maid,
· an Elvis impersonator,
· a big haired woman,
· a cheerleader,
· a bartender,
· a bag lady,
· a slick politician,
· a space alien.
Due to potential casting problems, please limit yourselves to no more than two Elvises (Elvi?) and keep in mind this is a family show.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: MAY 15, 2008
MORE RULES:
All playwrights must be West Virginia residents.
The play must not have been produced previously.
The play should be appx.15-20 minutes long. All plays must be type written and mailed to the Charleston Stage Company at 123 Summers Street Charleston, WV 25301 by May 15, 2008.
Playwrights can submit more than one play. Collaborations between/among writers are also acceptable.
Playwrights must be available to attend the first performance on June 28 2007.
The plays will be read and judged by out of state judges who will consider (among other things) creative use of the dramatic possibilities of the premise and the space. For more information check out the Festivall Play Contest at www.charlestonstagecompany.com.
This is the third year for the Charleston Stage Company’s Location!Location!Location! Play Project. Last year’s very popular A Streetcar Named Despair (by Gabriele Wohl) will be boarding the trolley again this year during Festiv-all.
THE LOCATION PLAYS ARE FUNDED, IN PART, BY THE WEST VIRGINIA COMMISSION ON THE ARTS AND FESTIV-ALL CHARLESTON.
